Interior and exterior design services were provided for this two-storey addition to the front section of a charming weatherboard cottage in the inner West.

Designed by Thodey Design Architects the addition is a bold and striking geometric composition of delicate warm timber and large black framed glass voids. Its elegant form is read as separate to the front section of the house; grape coloured weatherboards juxtapose with the rich texture of the extension.

The rear courtyard and a terraced deck -finished with a rich blend of recycled hardwoods- leads you into the garden and pool area. Pool surrounds and copings are tiled with an antiqued limestone paver, successfully integrating the existing aged sandstone walls and stairs.

An LED bollard light with minimal and linear design provides diffused light emission,  effectively lighting the stairs to the pool area. Indirect lighting washes floor surfaces, while architectural wall and spot lights illuminate function areas and focal points.

Elegant black glass pendants -curvature in design- soften the monolithic kitchen. The stone island bench top links seamlessly with the inky textural joinery. The splashback window includes the outdoor space and allows natural light to flood into the area.

A contemporary chandelier in matt white finish provides wide spread light for the dining area. The bright white walls and blackbutt floorboards in a wide plank format add a Scandinavian like feel to communal areas.

Bathrooms are finished with large porcelain travertine tiles bringing texture and a bold element to the space. Mosaic recesses add some visual contrast.

The finished design enhances the individuality of this exquisite home, and has been welcomed by the owners with enthusiasm.
